Last Friday, M23 extended its goodwill to the regional peace processes, when they handed over Kibumba town to the East African Community Regional Force (EACRF). But for the Kinshasa regime that has been at the forefront of instability in the Eastern DRC, the M23 is just clutching at straws.
Tshisekedi regime excluded M23 in all peace talks and demanded the revolution movement to withdraw in its positions, then negotiation will follow. This Friday, M23 withdrew from its positions in Kibumba, with the hope that Tshisekedi regime will lend an ear to M23’s grievances. However, the regime embarked a misinformation calling the withdrawal, a ‘decoy’.
Like the Tshisekedi regime’s Parliament designated M23, a terrorist group. Same way Tshisekedi and his henchmen are now disregarding M23 commitment to peace and behave as if the Nairobi and Luanda processes don’t concern them. They should remember that regional leases tasked them to dialogue with M23 and end hate speech and genocide incitement.
This way of dismissing the M23 with lies and propaganda, while adopting Interahamwe and their ideology done by the Tshisekedi regime, continues to be an iniquity that deprives DRC of lasting peace.
The International Community should not fall in trap of the Kinshasa regime that blemishes the M23 and follow it blindly, they should look into the matter and find a lasting solution to the rampant instability in DRC that has as well threatened regional security.
