After attacking the M23 fighters as they withdrew from the peripheries of Kibumba and received a bloody nose, the FARDC and allies, including FDLR, CODECO, Nyatura Mai-Mai ACPLS, PARECO, and mercenaries, attacked the Kenyan troops forming the East African Community Regional Forces (EACRF). This follows a similar attack on the Burundi contingent in Masisi on Friday night.
The attacks come following the declaration of the Congolese ruler, Tshisekedi, that negotiations with the M23 would only take place over his dead body!
As anticipated, the Kinshasa regime is rolling out its meticulously planned process to drive the regional forces out of eastern DRC, which would mark the end of the peace process sponsored by regional leaders to bring lasting peace. Tshisekedi’s ultimate objective is to create an environment where the upcoming elections will be impossible to organize, which will give him the power to extend his stolen rule.
Tshisekedi should not waste the precious time of the regional leaders. He is only posturing like he wants peace, yet he is now backtracking on the agreements he signed in Luanda.
