By creating the ‘Wazalendo’ coalition that amalgamates all sanctioned criminal armed groups, including genocide merchants FDLR that have operating in eastern Congo for decades, Tshisekedi intentionally endorsed their decade-long human rights violations and criminal activities. Tshisekedi’s carte blanche to the genocidal coalition of FDLR and Wazalendo to perpetuate violence and crimes will haunt DRC for decades.
Tshisekedi’s action is reminiscent of pre-genocide Rwanda. The genocidal regime, afraid that they were losing the war in all dimensions, created the murderous Interahamwe militia which they branded as “self-defense youth groups”.
The world will never recover from the consequences of this reckless political mistake. Nonetheless, instead of learning from this devastating mistake, Tshisekedi has followed the same path, and his self-proclaimed patriots are committing another genocide.
As a consequence, the world is already witnessing the consequences of Tshisekedi’s selfish, reckless mistake. The FDLR-led ‘wazalendo’ coalition, acting with outright impunity, are moving from village to village, house to house, hunting for members of the Congolese Tutsi community who they kill in the most humiliating manner.
Terrifying clips and photographs are all over the public domain, the world witnessed yet again the repeat of a genocide from a man who read the Rwandan Genocidaires’ handbook, to execute an ethnic cleansing of his own people.
The time is now for concrete action against Tshisekedi to save DRC from another dark history. Unless the world wakes up and intervenes quickly, a full-blown genocide is guaranteed to take place in eastern Congo.
The world should heed the adage: “prevention is better than cure” for indeed, dealing with the consequences of a genocide is not easy. Ask our immediate neighbor.
