In barely 25 years, genocide is happening again in our region, but the international community is once again culpable. In 1994, as the international community got embroiled in the trivial game of semantics concerning what to call what was happening in Rwanda (so as to avoid the binding obligation to intervene), the RPF decided to take the bull by the horns and stop the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi.

History is repeating itself in eastern DRC, where the international community has been trying hard to insulate themselves in the convenience of denial. But the loud siren warning of an ongoing genocide is deafening.

The international community has no excuse to stand by doing nothing. They have received the statements and reports by the UN genocide prevention agency warning of genocide, in addition to the gruesome media content that was continuously shared online showing that there is an ongoing campaign of genocide in DRC, incited by the government of Tshisekedi against Congolese Tutsi citizens.

Ironically, in DRC, some members of the international community have this time decided to side with the Kinshasa regime that is committing the genocide. They are piling pressure on the M23 fighters to withdraw from their positions, because ostensibly that would guarantee peace for everyone! The international community is well aware that the FARDC is fighting alongside the regional genocide specialists, the FDLR, and other armed groups that have gained the notoriety of committing gruesome massacres over the decades in eastern DRC.

Seeing that the international community is completely distracted or supportive of their behavior, the Kinshasa regime has rolled out a systematic campaign of exterminating the Tutsi communities living in the North and South Kivu provinces.

The pressure on the M23 to withdraw has provided the Kinshasa regime with the opportunity to intensify their genocidal campaign by unleashing the FARDC, mercenaries, and the allied armed groups that include FDLR, CODECO, PARECO, Mai-Mai, Nyatura, APCLS, and others. The M23 has been left with no option but to temporarily suspend the withdrawal and stop the ongoing genocide.

Unfortunately, the international community has a very short memory. That is why the genocide pledge of NEVER AGAIN! Has become a mere slogan to throw around at political rallies.
