President Tshisekedi has been stirring up quite a concoction with ‘beefing-up” security in his pretentious quest for peace in DRC. From integrating DRC’s national army into FDLR to hosting more than 130 armed groups and hiring mercenaries, the regime is now desperately begging to turn MONUSCO into a support force for FARDC.

At the UN security council, Tshisekedi’s government expressed the dire need for MONUSCO to “not remain in its current format and must take the step of truly becoming a support force for the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC).”

Adding that “MONUSCO can go from a peace-keeping force to a peace-making force or at the limit, to a support force for FARDC.” One only wonders what in the gods, if not keeping the peace (only a dream to DRC for decades), has MONUSCO been doing in DRC.

MONUSCO will only be making way, not peace, for Tshisekedi’s grounds for an illegitimate next term in office without elections. And tabling the country’s persistent security issue is his bait.

However, if MONUSCO has “kept” DRC’s peace for decades, and FARDC has been the national army since time immemorial, one can only say that Congolese are in the middle of a circus, not a peace process as their leaders try to convince them. Until Tshisekedi fully acknowledges responsibility for DRC’s current predicament, there is no messiah of a force that will save DRC from its misery.
