Recently, the “Congolese National Assembly” passed a law okaying the establishment of new armed groups, so-called as “Wazelendo”. Mainly consisted of youths, the group has a mandate to hunt down and kill all Tutsi Congolese, joining other terrorist groups Like FDLR, Nyatura, PARECO, APCLS fighting alongside Congolese Army- FARDC.
Tshisekedi’s Congo is infamously known to be a safe haven for over 266 armed groups which operates freely, preserved by the regime as they indulge in perpetrating crimes against humanity with impunity. The groups constitute a serious threat to the stabilization efforts made by regional leaders to put end to the reoccurring wars in the eastern part of the country.
Tshisekedi has continued to show that he doesn’t wish peace to his people despite regional appeal by his counterparts to halt collaboration with illegal armed groups and holding dialogue with opponents. For Nairobi and Luanda peace processes are only meaningless scripts that shall never be given a chance for implementation.
Tshisekedi’s former Minister of Defense, publicly stated that “An army without an ambulance is like a car that is going on a journey without a helper pin”, simply implying that the Congolese will always need a hand from the armed groups.
The main problem of the Congolese army is not the equipment or the number of personnel, but the indiscipline, unprofessionalism and lack of adequate training due to Tshisekedi regime’s failure to reform the security sector.
There is still a long way to go for the realization of peace and stability in Congo.
