The Burundian regime of pseudo general Evariste Ndayishimiye aka Gen. Neva has consistently milked the Congolese conflict in Congo’s Eastern provinces.
Gen. Neva, who began by offering his services as “a mediator” ended up as the biggest supplier of mercenaries to Congolese tyrant Felix Tshisekedi Tshilombo in a soldier-for-hire scheme, is now scheming to loot humanitarian funds. For a conflict he participated in fueling!
The despot started to plot his con job by closing his border with DR Congo, after a great humiliation when his 20,000 hired soldiers sent to Congo to defeat M23 were instead soundly defeated. By closing his border, he ensured that Congolese refugees would be blocked within Burundi.
Gen. Neva then issued an order to his entire local administration, barring Congolese refugees from renting houses or even staying with friends and relatives. The thug wants, in fact needs bloated refugee camps to make money off human misery.
At the Congo-Burundi border in Gatumba, hundreds of Congolese refugees found themselves blocked in a transit center, held against their will pending forced transfer to refugee camps.
Initially, they refused to load buses and trucks demanding to go back to Uvira. They were told, “the border is closed!” Refugees then asked for their embassy to intervene, and even reported the forced transfer to UNHCR. But no one helped. Then at sunset, Ndayishimiye’s police was unleashed to beat and force refugees into trucks and buses.
While this was happening, Ndayishimiye’s foreign affairs minister convened embassies and UN agencies, to present wild claims that Burundi had received more than 200,000 refugees. Now Burundi is claiming it needs over 100 million US dollars for “humanitairian” purposes.
Burundi’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs however got into a heated debate when a diplomat asked, “why don’t you let these urban refugees stay in urban centers?” The innocent question was met with hostility. The minister began to hurl insults followed by the statement “we are sovereign nation!” As if that’s a great declaration!
Surely there are few greater fools than “DDs”.
In reality, the Burundian foreign minister’s anger stems from elsewhere. The UNHCR’s fund appeal was for only US$ 35 million, but Burundi had inflated its estimate by US$ 65 million.
An official of a donor agency was reported to have said to a key UN official: “beware, Burundi is ranked in the top five most corrupt countries world wide for a reason!”
It is also public knowledge that both Ndayishimiye and Tshisekedi actively engage in pure fake news and manipulation.
Evariste Ndayishimiye aka Gen. Neva continues to seek for ways to loot Congo.
He benefits from the crisis by cashing in his soldier-for-hire scheme, looting Congo’s natural resources, and stealing from humanitairian funds.
Thieving is their second nature.
