The world should not have any illusions that Tshisekedi’s regime is keen on respecting the agreements they signed in Luanda, Angola, as well as the Nairobi peace process.
While the Luanda and Nairobi peace initiatives clearly call on Kinshasa to cease all hostilities and provocative acts, they latter only continue to accelerate transgressions against the two mechanisms.
The Congolese Revolutionary Movement and Army (M23/ARC) has shown commitment to respect the recommendations of the two peace mechanisms, by beginning the process of disengagement and gradual withdrawal from territories under their control.
However, the unholy alliance of the Congolese army (FARDC), and FDLR, APCLS, PARECO, Nyatura, CODECO and Mai-Mai have continued to hinder M23 withdrawal preparations, by continually attacking their positions.
Yesterday, this unholy alliance used heavy weapons, including Sukhoi-25 fighter jets, to mount an intense attack on M23 positions around Bwiza in Rutchuru, killing and injuring civilians. Sadly, the International Community has not raised their voice to condemn these acts that violate the ongoing peace initiatives by the region and the International Community.
As a show of commitment, the M23 movement has called for a meeting with the EACRF to raise these issues and also assure of the commitment to the Luanda and Nairobi peace processes.
During the meeting, the M23 movement will also make it clear that they should not be expected to watch as the coalition of evil continues to bombard civilians living in areas under their control.
