For years, Congolese of Tutsi ethnicity have faced sustained persecution which has continued to intensify over the years as a result of the ever changing political dynamics in the country.

Various reports, including several by the United Nations have on numerous occasions issued a clarion call for the world to act before another human catastrophe befalls the world.

Unfortunately, apart from matter-of-fact statements from some quarters mentioning “hate speech” there has been nothing tangible to show commitment to preventing another genocide happening.

But it is quite encouraging to know that the world still has some people with conscience. Two eminent personalities of high global standing have broken the silence to remind the world that a full blown genocide against the Tutsi is looming in Congo.

Adama Dieng the former- ICTR Prosecutor and Gareth Evans, the former Australian Foreign Minister, through the Global Centre for the area possibility to Protect (R2P) have issued a clarion call to the world to use this time of commemoration of the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda to think about what the world would look like if another genocide was to happen to completion next door in DRC, barely three decades apart.

The imminent personalities have called attention to the fact that the perpetrators of the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, namely the notorious FDLR, are mentioned in UN reports to be among those who are perpetrating the genocide against Congolese Tutsi.
