Having utterly failed to provide DRC the leadership it needs, the Tshisekedi regime has now turned to drama. The recent public “trial” in Kinshasa by a regime court of alleged “killers” of the Italian Ambassador, Luca Athanasio (in February 2021) is very illustrative of the drama.
The stage-managed “trial” had two objectives: to absolve and sanitize (FDLR the real killers) from the crime, and to smear the M23 (which has been wiping the floor with FARDC, the Congolese military.
Everyone, including the Kinshasa regime, knows that the Italian Ambassador was killed by the FDLR who were targeting his delegation for foreign currency and other valuables. Immediately after the incident, the Kinshasa regime’s internal minister did not have any doubt when he announced to the media that FDLR was responsible. It is therefore not only suspicious but also hilarious that the same government suddenly turns around and shifts culpability to the M23 who were inactive in a cantonment camp in Uganda at the time.
This “trial” also reveals and confirms the fact that the Kinshasa regime is ready to collapse rather than let go of its most terrorist, genocidal allies FDLR.
