It’s almost three decades after the horrendous 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, but the world seems to have forgotten the lessons of that terrible event.
The world vowed “never again”, but here we are in DRC today, and the regime is openly inciting genocide against Congolese of Tutsi ethnicity, with hate speech by Congolese regime authorities openly calling for massacres of Tutsi communities of that country.
However, the International Community is worryingly distracted, and apathetic to the ongoing genocide against the Congolese Tutsis. It is seemingly unmoved even when the United Nations Genocide Prevention agency has clearly sounded the alarm, on several occasions.
What is more worrying is the fact that instead of mobilizing resources to effect a timely response to stop the genocidaires in their tracks, the International Community is instead directing their energy and resources in undermining the efforts of those who are fighting to stop the genocide.
The main cause of the Congolese revolutionary movement – M23 – is to protect the Kinyarwanda-speaking Congolese who are under grave threat. The Kinyarwanda-speaking Congolese, Tutsi communities are victims of state inspired attacks by government affiliated armed groups like FDLR (anti-Rwanda genocidal, terror group under International Community sanctions), Mai-Mai Nyatura, PARECO, CODECO, APCLS and many others who have killed Tutsis and their cattle and looted their property, forcing thousands to flee their ancestral land.
Presently, more than 80,000 refugees live in Rwanda while many others are scattered in different countries in the region. The International Community has consciously ignored all these sad events and instead decided to side with the Kinshasa regime which has emboldened them to form even more alliances with armed groups that have continued to terrorise Tutsi communities in the Eastern DRC.
Since the warning of genocide in Congo was sounded, all that has come from the International Community has been feeble denunciations of “hate speech” appearing at the very bottom of statements whose principal purpose to strongly condemn the M23 who they accuse of “stirring conflict” and displacement of the masses’.
The global powers stay quiet when the Congolese army and their allied killer armed groups are running riot and killing Tutsis, but suddenly side with Kinshasa against anyone who decides to do something about it.
Instead of acting to stop the genocide, the International Community is busy issuing threats and using all means at their disposal, against M23 which is fighting to protect its people against genocide! They face condemnation, while with FDLR it is, crickets!
A few years from now, the same International Community that is refusing to act with urgency will be crying crocodile tears that “they should have acted when they received the clear early warning!”
We’ve seen this script before!
