With the Tshisekedi madness in DRC, the region is staring at an imminent disaster that could last for decades. The possibility of this regional calamity worsening is being reinforced by the indifferent attitude of the global powers who have decided to only play lip service to the events.
World powers, which are engaged in unprecedented competition for Congo’s minerals, have decided to play it safe by looking at the other side as Tshisekedi openly puts together a cocktail for regional chaos.
They (world powers) should know that with this attitude, even they will end up messing up their chances of staying in DRC. They need to be more proactive in the effort to find solutions for lasting peace in DRC, rather that play the games Kinshasa wants them to play. One place to start is to apply pressure on Tshisekedi to abide by the Luanda and Nairobi processes.
The world powers must know that playing it safe will not guarantee the safety of their mineral deals, because once the current instability goes up, all the deals will be up in smoke. They should look beyond the short-term gains and call Tshisekedi to order to stop him in his tracks before he plunges the region into chaos.
