The final report of the so-called UN Group of Experts on Congo has raised the disappointment of Congolese Rwandophones in the group to a new high. The group advances the old genocidaires narrative in the region that blames victims for their own tribulations.
While the UN Office on Genocide Prevention has severally raised the alarm and categorically alerted the world that a genocide against Congolese Tutsi was being systematically committed, the so-called experts cynically dismissed the heinous acts by the Kinshasa regime as “a narrative advanced by the M23”.
According to them, the thousands of Tutsis who have been killed and their properties taken or torched were only a figment of imagination by the M23 Movement! To the ‘experts, those many incidents where Congolese Tutsis who were publicly lynched, burnt and eaten and the gruesome episodes caught on camera, never happened!
The incident which went viral of social media showing FDLR and Mai-Mai terrorists shooting at point blank, hundreds of cows belonging to Congolese Tutsis and their recent burning of villages in Kilorirwe in Masisi were ignored by the ‘experts’ as non-issues.
The final report of the so-called UN Group of Experts on Congo confirmed the widely held belief that the UN Group of Experts are a bunch of individuals with an acute deficiency in integrity who are tasked to serve a predetermined agenda.
From the onset, the group’s endeavor to direct their content into a predetermined template is evidenced by the manner in which they struggle to present their work as objective (but fail miserably).
It is therefore no wonder that many people find no value in the UN Group of Experts since their reports only serve to escalate conflicts instead of being a tool for fostering peace.
