It looks like it will be a rough ride for Tshisekedi in his new quest to amend the constitution. Following massive protests in the streets of Kinshasa, it was the turn of the Congolese opposition leader Moise Katumbi to denounce the attempt to change constitution.
Politician turned philanthropist Katumbi, who was cheated in the previous elections, has said Tshisekedi’s plan to amend the constitution is a betrayal by someone who once vowed to protect it and oppose suspicious amendments.
“We were together in Brussels and we fought against the same project, when Joseph Kabila wanted to change the law. Today, they want us to believe that this same constitution is a problem. No, it is bad governance that is,” Katumbi said.
According to him, the primary issue facing Congo is poor governance, not the Constitution. He added that If Tshisekedi wanted to address the political malaise in DRC, he should start with governance.
Protesters who flocked the streets in Kinshasa this week denounced Tshisekedi for overstaying his tenure, with empty promises. According to circulated videos on social media, “Tshisekedi is a thief that has failed to manage the country and chosen instead to blame neighboring countries for his failures.”
Let Tshisekedi be warned: Congolese won’t stand idly by, while he plays monkey games with the top law of the land!
